Hello everyone!

In today’s blog post, we wanted to explore with all of you the common causes of sleep deprivation. We are aware of the many causes, implications, and activities that may prevent you from receiving sufficient sleep. So, we thought it would be a great idea to share some causes we share as well as how to balance them and optimize your sleeping time.

Social Media/Shows/Movies/Podcasts - We know that all of these forms of media are common among adolescents. Students often fall down the spiral of watching shows or social media until it consumes all of their time. Unfortunately, we know how much of a spiral it can create.

Here are some tips on how to overcome these:

  1. Set Screen Time Limits

  2. Finish Shows or Movies During the Weekends

  3. Look at social media when you get home from school & do the homework after → it will force you to be pressured by your homework & finish it sooner

  4. Delete Social Media → the more you abstain from it the less your urge will be

Unfortunately, it all comes down to your own self-control. It can only be overcome with strong self-will and resistance.

Homework - We understand that in high school and beyond, the workload intensifies quite a lot. It can be a result of familial or societal pressure. If it isn’t possible to take lighter workloads, here are some tips:

  1. Get Ahead on Weekends

  2. Do Not Procrastinate

  3. Utilize your time at school effectively

Like with social media, it comes down to how strong and willing you are to prioritize your sleep. The more you stay ahead of your schedule, the better your sleeping habits may be.

We will follow up with more causes of adolescent sleep deprivation in a future blog post.

See you soon,

Nandita and Sri
